At a recent church meeting of Church of England churches in the Whitstable and Herne area concern was raised over recent water shortages and the long term problem of sewage outflows to the sea and whether new housing developments would impact on this further in time. At the same time it is recognised that there is a serious need for more affordable housing in the area. It was agreed that a public debate should be held to discuss these matters in more detail and hear both sides of the argument. How can we extend a sincere, warm welcome to new parish members and young families in need of affordable housing while ensuring that development does not overburden our already strained infrastructure?
